Facebook Product Categories Subverticals
Meta advises including a Google product category for each product of your
catalog. Google product categories (GPCs) are a taxonomy established by
Google to hierarchically organize products into related groups. Although
Facebook developed its taxonomy, the Facebook Product Categories (FPCs),
they have become mostly irrelevant.
In addition to GPCs, Meta has introduced another category type: Meta
Catalog Subverticals. The term "subvertical" implies a broader "vertical"
categorization that doesn't significantly exist. Essentially, subverticals
are non-overlapping sets of GPCs without additional structure.
There are currently only 26 Subverticals. Each
subvertical groups specific GPCs where every subvertical represents a product
type with a shared attribute set. While GPCs categorize products by purpose,
subverticals focus on the products' nature.
For instance, "Apparel & Accessories > Costumes & Accessories > Costume
Shoes" is categorized as
shoes_and_footwear, whereas
"Apparel & Accessories > Costumes & Accessories > Costumes" is categorized
as
clothing.
